Caroline Munshaw and Jenni Bolton founded Cent$ible Students to fill the need for further financial literacy education for elementary school students.

Both bring leading edge experience in financial literacy from their work with SEDI’s Canadian Centre for Financial Literacy and over 15 years experience in business and community organizations.

The current economic environment has brought attention to the fact that children would benefit from additional support to develop a deeper understanding of money and related topics.  Programs and services that do exist target older students, usually grade seven and beyond.  Cent$ible Students aims to engage students in the primary years, to strengthen their knowledge and skills around financial literacy and prepare them for future learning.

From January 25, 2010 edition of TIME Magazine, in an article by Barbara Kiviat:

"'We need to figure out how to do this the right way,' says Lewis Mandell, a professor at the University of Washington who after 15 years of studying financial literacy programs has come to the conclusion that the current methods don't work.  A growing number of researchers and educators agree that a more radical approach is needed. They advocate starting financial education a lot earlier than high school, putting real money and spending decisions into kids' hands."
